Natart Juvenile Furniture has recently come out with a farmhouse-style collection inspired by the “Alpine region surrounding the city of Cortina, Italy”. The Cortina Collection mixes the natural elements of wood and metal, which gives it a very warm and homey feeling. It comes in 4 different finishes and they can all be combined with the cognac finish.
For this week’s design board I went with the grey chalet and cognac finish for the room. This furniture collection inspired me to go for a rustic woodland theme, perfect for a little boy. I started out with the wallpaper; bringing out the warm greys and creating a neutral background for the other elements in the room. Now I just needed some color inspiration. I like to find unique pops of color through art and decor for this.
I found this longhorn canvas art from Oopsy Daisy. The Longhorn print was an instant match for this design in my head. I instantly started pulling colors from this piece, starting with the rug from Surya. This soft plush pile rug in this rich blue color is a great way of grounding the design and adding some color. Even though the blue is very rich and interesting, it seemed like is was needing something a little bit fun. After all, it is a baby boy’s nursery. That’s where the yellow comes in. Adding a few pieces from Surya in a mustard yellow, adds a pop of color and breaks up the darker palette.
Working with different patterns and textures is my favorite way of adding a unique feel to any design, besides working with color. This makes an “adult looking” furniture collection, into something fun for a baby boy, but at the same time it is furniture that will definitely grow with your little one.
